Knitting Technique.
Ribbing, rows in straight and reverse direction: number of stitches multiple of 6 + 3 + 2 edge stitches.
Right side rows: edge stitch, * 3 purl, 3 knit, repeat from * constantly, 3 purl, edge stitch.
Wrong side rows: knit stitches as they appear.
Circular rows: number of stitches multiple of 6. Alternate 3 purl, 3 knit.
Double Edge Stitch
in wrong side rows slip the first and last 2 stitches purlwise (yarn at back); in right side rows knit the first and last 2 stitches.
Garter Stitch
knit all stitches in both right and wrong side rows."Cable" (on 20 stitches): knit according to Chart 1, which shows only right side rows; in wrong side rows knit stitches as they appear. Repeat 1–8th rows constantly.
Aran pattern (on 37 stitches): knit according to Chart 2, which shows only right side rows; in wrong side rows knit stitches as they appear. Repeat 1–16th rows constantly.
Knitting density.
Aran pattern and "Cable" pattern: 16.5 stitches and 18 rows = 10 x 10 cm.
Garter stitch: 10 stitches and 18 rows = 10 x 10 cm.
Work Description
Back: cast on 33 (89) 95 sts. and for the bottom placket knit 6 cm in ribbing, starting with 1 purl row. Then, for the front edge, cast on 1 x 5 (6) 6 new stitches on both sides (= 93 (101) 107 sts.) and distribute stitches as follows: 2 double edge stitches, 6 (10) 13 sts. garter stitch, 20 sts. "Cable" pattern, 37 sts. Aran pattern, 20 sts. "Cable" pattern, 6 (10) 13 sts. garter stitch, 2 double edge stitches.
After 51 cm = 92 rows from the bottom placket, bind off the middle 21 sts. for the neckline and finish both sides separately. For the neckline rounding, bind off 2 x 2 sts. at the inner edge in every 2nd row.
Bind off the remaining 32 (36) 39 shoulder sts. after 54.5 cm = 98 rows from the bottom placket.
Front
cast on 95 (101) 107 sts. and for the bottom placket knit 6 cm in ribbing, starting with 3 purl, 3 knit in the 1st row (= wrong side row) after the edge stitch and ending in mirror reflection. Then, bind off 1 x 1 (0) 0 sts. on both sides (= 93 (101) 107 sts.) and distribute stitches as follows: 2 double edge stitches, 6 (10) 13 sts. garter stitch, 20 sts. "Cable" pattern, 37 sts. Aran pattern, 20 sts. "Cable" pattern, 6 (10) 13 sts. garter stitch, 2 double edge stitches.
After 43.5 cm = 78 rows from the bottom placket, bind off the middle 11 sts. for the neckline and finish both sides separately. For the neckline rounding, bind off 1 x 3 sts., 2 x 2 sts., and 2 x 1 st. at the inner edge in every 2nd row.
Bind off the remaining 32 (36) 39 shoulder sts. after 54.5 cm = 98 rows from the bottom placket with a hollow cord edge: cast on 3 new sts. (= 35 (39) 42 sts.), * knit 2, knit 2 sts. together with a left slant (= slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, then pass the slipped stitch over), return these 3 sts. back to the left needle, repeat from * constantly, until there are only 3 sts. left, then bind off the remaining 3 sts.
Assembly
sew the shoulder seams so that the hollow cord edge is on the right side.
For the turtleneck collar, pick up 78 sts. along the neckline edge on circular needles and knit 22 cm in ribbing. Bind off the stitches.
Sew the side seams, for this sew only the bottom 6 cm, placing the bottom edge of the back under the first 5 (6) sts. of the front and sew from the wrong side."
