You Will Need

Yarn (83% alpaca wool, 17% nylon; 25 g/125 m) — 3 skeins of green; size 4.5 mm double-pointed knitting needles.

Rib Pattern

Alternately 2 knit, 2 purl.

Stockinette Stitch

Knit rows — knit stitches, purl rows — purl stitches; when knitting in the round: all rows — knit stitches only.

2 Stitches With Left Slant

Knit 2 stitches together with a left slant: slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit the next stitch and pass the slipped stitch over the knit stitch.

Gauge

24–25 sts x 30 rows = 10 x 10 cm, worked in stockinette stitch on 4.5 mm needles.

Working The Gloves

Cast on 56 sts on size 4.5 mm double-pointed needles, knit in the round in rib pattern = alternately 2 knit, 2 purl.

After 12 cm, knit 1 row in knit stitches, decreasing evenly to 47 sts remaining on needles. Then continue knitting in the round in stockinette stitch.

After 3 cm, start increases for the thumb: from the beginning of the round, knit 22 sts, increase 1 st, knit 4 sts, and increase 1 st = 6 sts for the thumb gusset, knit to the end of the round. Repeat increases every 4th round = each increase round adds 2 sts for the gusset. After a total of 12 sts have been added for the gusset, work 3 more rows after the last increase round, then transfer these 12 gusset sts to a scrap yarn, cast on 2 new sts above the gusset, and continue knitting in the round on all 45 sts.

After 4.5 cm above the cast-on sts over the gusset, start knitting the fingers.

Little Finger
Knit until the last 5 sts, knit these sts and the first 5 sts of the next round, cast on 2 sts towards the ring finger (= a total of 12 sts), transfer the remaining sts to 2 scrap yarn or needles). Knit in the round in stockinette stitch until the little finger is about 6 cm long. Close the sts as follows: in the 1st round, alternately knit to the end of the round: 1 knit, 2 sts knit together; in the 2nd round: consecutively knit 2 sts together, break the yarn and pull through the remaining sts, then tighten and secure the yarn end.

Ring Finger
Knit 5 sts of the palm's inner side, cast on 1 new st, knit 6 sts of the outer side, knit 2 sts over the 2 sts of the little finger (= a total of 14 sts). Knit in the round in stockinette stitch until the finger is about 7 cm long. Close sts as on the little finger.

Middle Finger
Knit 6 sts of the palm's inner side, cast on 1 new st, knit 6 sts of the outer side, and knit 2 sts over the ring finger's st = (a total of 15 sts). Knit in the round in stockinette stitch until the finger is about 8 cm long, close sts as for the little finger.

Index Finger
Knit the last 12 sts and 2 sts over the middle finger's st = a total of 14 sts. Knit in the round in stockinette stitch until the finger is about 7 cm long, close sts as for the little finger.

Thumb
Transfer 12 sts from the scrap yarn onto needles and knit 3 sts over the 2 cast-on sts = (a total of 15 sts). Knit the thumb about 6 cm long and close sts as on the little finger.

Left Glove

Knit as for the right glove, but in mirror image.
